Summary: A small look into how she takes care of her boys.

Sunshine began to bleed through the worn out curtains of the current motel they were propped up in. Stirring awake, she grins at the realization of the position she was in. Sam’s lanky arm draped over her side with her pulled against Sam’s chest tightly. She places a kiss on his bicep as she begins to struggle out of his grasp to get up for the day. Finally breaking through, she sits on the edge of the bed. Looking over at Dean’s side of the bed doing him a once over to make sure he was alright.

Grabbing a fresh pair of jeans and a clean plain t-shirt from her duffle, she makes her way over to the bathroom to change. Coming out, she grabs Sam’s discarded flannel that laid over the dining table chair and slips on her shoes. Sam’s wallet and the keys to the Impala laid on the same table so she swiftly collects them and makes her way outside.

She liked morning like this, being a morning person like Sam it helped them have little routines even when on the road. She typically woke before either boy did so she was always able to do something nice for them.

Driving towards one of the local diners, she orders breakfast for the three of them to go. Making sure to grab a black coffee for Dean since he never liked starting his mornings with out it. Also ordering a slice of whatever the daily special pie was for said place so Dean could have it later.

Arriving back at the motel, she tries her best to be quiet when unlocking the door with the bags of food in her hands. Upon entering, she notices Sam was no longer in bed, but in the bathroom with the shower running. She sets down the bags and begins to grabs plates from the make-shift kitchen. With her back turned to the bathroom door, she begins to make the boys their plate. Just as she places the plates on the table a warm arm wraps around her waist and she feels a kiss on the side of her head.

“Good morning,” Sam’s gruff morning voice says above her.

Turning around and smiles up at him.

“Good shower?” She asks, earning a soft ‘mhm’ from Sam.

Sam pulls her in a quick hug before taking a look at the table.

“Looks good,” he says sitting down preparing to eat.

She grabs the warm coffee for Dean and makes her way over to his bed. Before she could even open her mouth to awake him, Dean’s hand shot out from his blanket making a grabbing motion.

“Here you go you big baby,” she laughs. Handing the coffee over before making her way back over to join Sam.

Dean join them at the table shortly after. Smiling down at his plate lined with pancakes and bacon. She lets out a small laugh as he begins to stuff his face, smiling up at her.

“Good?” She asks in between bites and Dean nods exaggeratedly.

“Extremely, thanks sweetheart.” Dean says with a mouth full.

“There’s pie in the fridge,” she mentions causally watching as Dean’s eyes light up.

“It’s apple.” She mentions, Dean groans in delight.

“God Sam, you picked a good one.” Dean says waving his fork towards his brother.

Sam laughs echoes the room making her smile between bites.

They make casual small talk about the current case they’re working on as they finish up breakfast. More and more it sounds like a run of the mill vengeful ghost. Dean finishes his food and makes his way towards the shower. Leaving her and Sam to clean up.

They begin to tag-team the dishes. Sam washing down with her drying next to him. She stands there with a deep smile forming on her face, thinking about how lucky she is to have found the brothers, and Sam takes note of the forming smile.

“What’s on your mind?” Sam questions as he continues away at his task.

“Just thinking about how lucky I am to have you,” she replies.

“Oh yeah?” Sam asks, turning to face her as he finishes the final utensil, place it on her pile.

“Mhm,” she responds, taking in a quick breath.

“Just a year ago, I was hunting on my own, getting myself in a lot of trouble. One call from Bobby and here you are in my life. I couldn’t ask for anything different,” she says, grabbing the same utensil Sam had placed on her pile a moment ago.

Finally finished with the morning chore, she places everything back in their respective drawer or cabinet and faces him. Arms crossing against her chest she looks up at her lover. Doing a quick once-over of his features. A blush forms on her cheeks as Sam sheepishly rubs the back of his neck at her roaming eyes.

Their eyes meet each other. Sam grabs her elbow as he pulls her close. She wraps her arms around his neck and leans up to steal a kiss. Sam’s hands rest on the dips of her hips, holding her steady. But, was rudely interrupted by the sound of the bathroom door opening.

Dean enters the room already dressed in his FBI suit.

“Well, come on you two, we have victims to interview.” Dean retorts, grabbing his tie from his duffle.

She groans, looking back at Sam with a shy smile. Sam gives her hips a squeeze and breaks away from their embrace. He grabs his suit and makes his way to bathroom while Dean makes his way outside to the Impala leaving her “alone” in the room.

She shakes her head and begins to make her way back towards the shared bed. Grabbing her pencil skirt and blouse from her bag. Incredibly grateful to have Sam in her life.

can you expand on what you mean about 12x22 and berens? i’ve never really looked at the writer patterns before but i’m intrigued

so jensen did a solo panel at JIB 8 in 2017 and an earlier question prompted him to recount his experience having difficulty connecting with the mary & dean relationship in s12 and the character motivation behind it. (and i think he's correct in saying that fans picked up on him not gelling with it which actually works in some episodes but feels off in others.)

anyway! berens was on-set when they were filming 12x22 "who we are" and jensen told him "oh god i get it now!" with the "i hate you, i forgive you" speech (that dean's character arc was him needing to forgive mary) and berens had no idea what he was talking about.

hopefully this embedded correctly to start at the right time code, but if not, he starts talking about it at 19:45

which yes, there's the possibility that berens was just yanking jensen's chain* about not realizing the "i hate you, i forgive you" was the thesis of mary & dean's relationship arc in s12. but also i really am inclined to believe he didn't realize he'd tied up the whole arc bc berens has been such a chronic dean misunderstander over the years. like folks will talk about dean as the "angry man" in late seasons and... that's mostly berens, baby!**

and i know you didn't ask but this is why the confession falls so flat for me. it rings hollow bc this is the writer who has done more than anyone else in the last few seasons to make dean an un-likeable prick. i do like the confession as a radical act of self-love (that "having" doesn't matter and "being" is more important) but as cas confessing his love to dean? yeah, i just can't buy it given the other stuff berens wrote over the years and the narrative framing is just off. much like the finale, it's tragedy wearing an ill-fitting ballgown and looking in a fun house mirror.

so, in summary (x)

* this is a bit unkind, but jensen is such a consummate pro that i would not be surprised if the "maybe he was yanking my chain" was a way to save face for berens since jensen has disagreed with him on his episodes before.

** i did not jive with 14x20 "moriah" until i re-watched it without the baggage of 14x18 before it (14x19 isn't great but does set up the "logic" of dean's actions in 14x20; never 5get that cas wanted to put jack in the cage... how is that different from a ma'lak box?). i think berens was just not a good fit for spn and especially not the direction they were going in during dabb era. i'm not a big fan of him in carver era either but he fit the vibes and direction way better.

I had to give this a thought. It's very hard to come up with just 10. I could easily do a part II. 😂 But without further ado, and in no particular order, 10 of my favorite KC fics:

. The Parisian Deal by Borzoi

I honestly vary between The Parisian Deal and Paradise Lost as my favorite Borzoi fics. It depends. I think I'm in my Parisian Deal era, though. I've recced this a few times over the last few months, whenever someone's asked me for my favorites or humanity-less Caroline fics. For me, this is the best one that comes to mind. Borzoi's fics are all brilliant. I love their writing style to bits. It reads like a novel, it draws in and it grips you by the throat until the very end. This one features Klaus being called to the rescue by a desperate Salvatore clan when Caroline turns off her humanity and fucks off to Europe. Unlike her friends, Klaus doesn't threaten her, doesn't try to force her to feel; instead, he offers her a deal. And it's perfect. I love this story with my whole heart, I can't even tell you.

. In the Backseat by Lila2

After leaving Hayley as a wolf in the Bayou and earning the hatred of his entire family, Klaus shows up with baby Hope on Caroline's doorstop. He has no idea what to do with a baby, is too proud to apologize and is in desperate search of some validation, which invariably leads her back to her (just like in 5x11). Caroline is torn between being mad at him for having a baby with freaking Hayley, and also the fact that she loves kids and there's a part of her that resents him precisely because he gets to have them, when she never will. In her own way, Caroline puts him in his place and convinces him to make amends and go home, take Hope back to her mother - but only if she comes with him on the road trip. And boy, is it worth it. 🥰 It's a fic that has the baby as a catalyst for everything, at the center of everyone's woes in different ways, but it's not about the baby, in case you're a baby fic hater. And the writing is just chef's kiss.

. the birth and death of the day by @little-miss-sunny-daisy

For a good while there, this fic was my entire fandom personality. Whenever anyone gave me a second of their time, I'd preach about the birth and death of the day. I was obsessed. Kelly is a brilliant writer, so, so, so talented. I am not kidding when I saw I wish I could write like her. And the greatest proof of that is how this fic was everything to me, in spite of not being at all my cup of tea on the tin. I don't like Supernatural, I never watched more than two episodes, and the Klaroline bit here kind of takes on a secondary role to the end of the of the world. But it's such an intense and brilliant character study on Caroline that it had my whole heart from the start. Her relationship with her BROTHERS Dean and Sam is so heartfelt, and it exposes so much of who Caroline really is as a character. The plot is INSANE and AMAZING and HUGE and it's so incredible how it ties in so seamlessly with the Mystic Falls shenanigans. And then there is Klaus! When I saw secondary, I don't mean irrelevant. I just mean there's more to the story than just their relationship. But it is still brilliantly developed. Honestly, just writing about it brings me back memories. I love it so much.

. Quiet Light by @definedareasofuncertainty

I am biased when it comes to Luiza's fics because I'm a fangirl and I have been one since day one, before we even became friends. But in the years (years 🥲 we have been here so long, friend) we have known each other, her writing has only gotten better and better. It's atmospheric and understated and it has this mindfulness about it that I can't really explain. It really feels like being in the characters' stream of thinking, you get instantly pulled into it. It evokes emotions without it ever having to be minutely described, and I think that's such an incredible talent. I wish I could write like this! And Quite Light not only brings all of those things forward, but it also brings COMPLEXITIES and MORAL QUARRELLS and it was also WRITTEN FOR ME. 😌✨ Luiza thought she was getting revenge on me by torturing Elijah, but LITTLE DID SHE KNOW I actually loved it. I went into this thinking it would be just a rom-com style story (which I love), but it's so much more. By the end I was crying real tears. 🥲 It becomes such a beautiful story about the relationship between Klaus and Elijah. Honestly brilliant.

Honestly, this fic has a very specific target audience, and that target audience is ME. I'm not even exaggerating; this is one my favorite pieces of fic ever written in the KC fandom. The way a Klarolijah fic speaks to me can be so personal. 🥺 I love the Klarolijah dynamic. I really do. But it takes a very specific balance for me to feel it. It can very easily go from me loving it, to me wanting to throttle someone. And this! THIS!! This is absolutely it. 🥲 And it's just about my favorite thing ever. This is actually three mini drabbles combined into one. Each of them is written through a different POV - Klaus', Elijah's and Caroline's. And the combination of all three, the way they tell the same story through different eyes, is just !!!!!!!!! Honestly, I don't have words. This has ✨Yokan my beloved✨ written all over it and I feel it very much. Luiza has a ridiculous talent for writing things on the spot. She got prompted to write an Elijah piece, and then a Caroline piece, and then a Klaus one, and she wrote them all in like 30 minutes on one of her mini drabbles challenge, and OH MY FUCKING GOD. I hate her for how good she is. 😭 (I don't, I love her, but I also v much envy her talent).

I spent a solid few minutes here thinking about which of Hannah's fics I wanted to list, because she has this huge catalogue and I've basically read all of them and have gushed over almost every single one over the years. But even though there are others that could easily be in my top 10, I always end of going back to This is a Harvest. I remember when I first read it, I closed the tab at the end and was just… Done. Not in a 'I can't stand this story/ship/fandom anymore', but in a 'this is the fic to end all fics' kind of way. And it's not so much about the style or the writing, which are both stunning, but the way the story is told. It's a canon divergence that spans over years and I felt it in my heart that this was where the story could've gone. The choices they could've made. The way Caroline's story could and should have ended. And I was satisfied. I started writing and reading KC fanfiction after TO was over because I was so indignant about the way the show ended, so unhappy that I needed to give it my own spin, and read other folks doing the same, and when I read this story I felt like I had achieved that. This is it, I can put this to rest.

Obviously, I was way too deep by then that I couldn't really abandon the fandom (even though, just between us here, I kind of wish I could), but for a whole week or two, I was at peace. This fic gave me peace. That's it.

. Into the Woods by @jinxedwood

"But Yokan, how would you like to see Klaus' part in Legacies play out?" Like this. Exactly like this. This story accepts the finale we were dealt in The Originals, and then makes something absolutely amazing with it. I love the premise, I love the mythology involved, I love how unique this take is, and I love how even though it's poignant and bittersweet, it still packs up everything about Kc that made me love this ship so much. Caroline has been in Europe for years trying to find a way to help her daughters with their Gemini situation, and then she ends up stumbling across something else entirely. While she thought the thing she most wanted to see on a brief stint on the Other Side would be Gemini witches, her heart betrays her by taking her to who she really misses the most.

This story is so old school it was written before Steroline. It's about Tyler. But we all know who Caroline ends up marrying, so in my heart, this is really what happens before Caroline marries Stefan. And honestly, it works just as well. This story is a punch to your stomach, but it is PERFECTION in 8k words. It's hot, it's bittersweet, it's SO in character. Caroline's denial, telling herself that Klaus is there to see her because he still ones revenge on Tyler, when it becomes very obvious, very fast, as it always does on the show, that it's never about Tyler, it's all about her. UGH. Honestly, brilliant. (third fic on this list with a The National reference on the title, I SENSE A PATTERN).

. As One Wishes to Live by @lalainajanes

I had never in my life read a genie!AU, and simply could not wrap my mind around anything of the sort that wouldn't be extreme crack!fic. Imagine my surprise upon reading this story. It's bittersweet in the best possible way. At the same time it's endearing and adorable (and so very IC) to watch Caroline fumbling for a fair and non-insane way to handle Klaus, the genie Katherine accidentally gifted her with (and who just happens to look incredibly alluring), it's so very poignant to read Klaus' POV. He's Klaus in the way that he's suspicious and dismissive and kind of snobbish, really, but he's resigned to his fate. This is a Klaus who has been broken by years of enslavement as this prop who's there exclusively to serve others. Every time he mentions one of his past masters, you just get that stab - and so does Caroline. Laine is one of the most prolific and talented KC writers ever, and I have read and enjoyed so, so many of her fics, but this definitely has a special place in my heart.

. Psychedelic Kicks by @notalittlebutalottie

This is an ensemble story that has Klaroline at heart, but that gives every other character a moment to shine. And shine they do! Everyone gets their own side stories, and absolutely loved following every single one of them. Lottie made me care for characters I hate in canon, like Katherine and Kol. Even Stefan and Elena had my heart here. This fic is a journey, full of ups and downs, and it has such a satisfying end. It's also incredibly original in its setting and tone, which I think it's one of Lottie's greatest talents. It's very are for historical fics to be set in the 60s, and not only did Lottie choose this very particular time, but she also did such a remarkable job incorporating the decades' aspects into the story. Not just the fashion, and the music, and Woodstocky vibes, but the social and political unrest as well. This is a story with LAYERS, my friends, and it's incredible. I could totally see this being a TV show or a movie tbh. It's that good.

portrait!dumbledore’s decision to turn up in the great hall in the middle of the battle of hogwarts and suggest that everyone just calm down and have a nice sing-song is initially met with some apprehension. but then an open bar appears in the room of requirement and the assembled enemies think they might as well…

harry gets things started with a spirited performance of holding out for a hero by bonnie tyler. it’s a hard act to follow, but dumbledore and voldemort manage it with their version of the boy is mine by brandy and monica [released in 1998, so good to see that they were both keeping up with the charts…].

this is a lot of male nonsense - and refereeing a battle definitely isn’t what she thought she’d be doing when she agreed to take a teaching job - so minerva grabs the microphone and delivers a barnstorming rendition of nine to five by dolly parton. the younger generation of women make this point too: ginny with cherry bomb by the runaways; fleur with celebrity skin by hole; and hermione with respect by aretha franklin.

luna, obviously, deviates from this with an uncomfortable cover of jefferson airplane’s white rabbit. backwards, since she claims this proves the existence of the crumpled-horned snorkack. luckily, ron decides to get everything back on track with she drives me crazy by fine young cannibals.

dumbledore notices that the death eaters have been awfully quiet, so he lures them in with an astonishing delivery of blue öyster cult’s don’t fear the reaper, with flitwick on the guitar. never willing to be upstaged, augustus rookwood, antonin dolohov, rabastan lestrange, and corban yaxley take to the stage with motownphilly by boyz ii men.

two death eaters are left out of the performance. lucius malfoy - who’s been in a flop era since the second voldemort strutted out of the cauldron - brings the vibe down with nobody knows you when you’re down and out [the sam cooke version, because that’s the best]. it’s taken down even further when rodolphus - who has finally twigged what his wife’s fondness for singing black is the colour of my true love’s hair in the shower means - rages his way through ray charles’ i believe to my soul.

bellatrix literally couldn’t give a shit. she’s on her feet, in a leather catsuit, and bringing the house down with i’d rather be burned as a witch, leaving eartha kitt in the dust.

the trio are impressed and reward her with a version of wannabe by the spice girls [harry’s baby, ron’s ginger, hermione’s scary, draco malfoy is posh, and dean is sporty - seamus was removed from the room for singing come out ye black and tans]. they are interrupted just as hermione’s rap begins by snape, bleeding profusely from the neck, staggering in to the opening bars of tubthumping by chumbawamba.

nagini, in an attempt at an apology for the whole tearing snape’s jugular thing, hisses a surprisingly beautiful rendition of al wilson’s the snake.

several vodka-and-tonics in at this point, lord voldemort is prepared to be convinced that maybe this is a better way of spending his time than all the murder. his musical bid for peace? don’t cry for me argentina. obviously.

the night is then ruined when percy whips out a guitar and says, "anyway, here’s wonderwall."

Updates to Monroe Family ⋆˙⟡

Omg it has been forever since I have played in this household it feels BUT we got updates! As you can tell Kimi has moved on from her bang era and now has a fresh cut & so does Dean because when Kimi dyed her hair back to her more natural color Dean felt left out and decided to chop his hair a bit as well (he literally is so goofy) So far they are just navigating the life of being parents with Rayne & recording every milestone he makes for example recently Rayne has started being able to roll over and grab things! He also hates being held, loves wake-up time, and is a pretty drooly baby at this time. He takes longer to warm up to things being a more cautious baby but he is making great strides and soon will be learning how to walk! Dean has already been showing Rayne all the musical instruments, singing to him, and having little recording days in the studio together. They both believe Rayne will grow to be a singer/musician in the future at this rate and it makes Kimi so happy to see Dean be a father to their wonderful son. There will be some more updates with pictures from the last couple of weeks since Rayne was born! They are def the parents to want to hold onto every memory together. thank you guys sm for all the love & support lately! if you'd like to see more of me I am more active over on twitter.♡

well I have just finished road trip!!! and as a religious horror enjoyer I am having a ball it's sooooo horrific. angel as parasite is just such a fantastic concept. I can't even imagine anything worse for sam specifically then his brother letting an angel inside him while he was unconscious and then GASLIGHTING HIM ABT IT for what, months??? it's also example number a billion of sam having a double/shadow self, 'you're sam but you're not sam'/'it's not-sam but it's still sam', the monstrous alien entity that is no longer externalized, sam as the window through which evil infiltrates the circle of protection. changelingism. sam saying 'we're always scraping to find some other explanation, when maybe it's just me' just busted my heart in half. especially in the context of the VIRGIN GODDESS calling him impure??? to sense that there has been a violation but have the person you trust most in the world call you crazy over and over again until you're like oh well if there really is no one else here. then it's just me. I am the violation. how can you run from what's inside you. you can't.

and DEAN omg we HAVE to kill him with hammers. very much the lisafication of sam what with the memory wipe and the whole dealing with hurting someone he loves by being like oh sorry it's bc I'm poison. lethal combination of savior complex and narcissistic self hatred means he is unable to form healthy relationships with other human beings ESPECIALLY ones he has to take care of. bc the savior/damsel dichotomy is inherently dehumanizing and corrosive but we can't escape it (watch revolutionary girl utena).

also I love gadreel I think he's so babygirl. Big alien robot <3 My brain goes brrrr every time I see him. The biggest softie and the greenest green flag. Please just give him a break. My baby is constantly under stress.

4. Din Djarin

HE'S SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER LET ME MARRY HIM. An amazing father. Him and Grogu (baby yoda) are such cute little family. And his voice? Pedro Pascal knew what he was doing. I would die if Din Djarin looked at me. Instant and beautiful death.

5. Stephen Strange

Magic man! He has a really interesting character (I'm talking mostly about comic Stephen). He loves his wife from another dimension. An insecure little boy that needs a hug and 2 weeks vacation to finally fucking relax. Seriously, man, take a freaking break.

6. Megatron

Is he a manic tyran with genocidal tendencies? Yes. But I could fix him. I like the "more than meets the eye" version of megatron because he's in his redemption arc era in those comics and the fanfics about that SLAP.The amount of angst and guilt you read in those stories? That's my shit.

My favorite Sam/Dean song is absolutely Twin Size Mattress by The Front Bottoms

I am such a sucker for Stanford-era Wincest (and those times around it) especially for that sweet spot where things got worse shortly before and after Sam left and this song perfectly encapsulates Dean's feelings from that era <3

Dean's sense of having lost so much yet how he and everyone around him still keeps on fighting. He knows Sam's gonna experience the same things because it's the hunting life and it's gonna be horrible and Sam is going to feel like he's gonna loose everything but he's not alone because Dean is there to help him (swim). 

This is for the snakes and the people they bite For the friends I've made; for the sleepless nights For the warning signs I've completely ignored There's an amount to take, reasons to take more

Dean's life, the bad (monsters/snakes), the good (the people he's saved), what he's gained and what he's lost. He doesn't want to loose anymore, but he's going to loose Sammy. He wonders if there's anything he could have done to prevent it, how Sam only had so much to give but how Dean, John and the hunting life demanded more. 

When they close their eyes and prayed you would change And they cut your hair, and sent you away You stopped by my house the night you escaped With tears in my eyes, I begged you to stay You said, hey man, I love you but no fucking way

Sam not living up to what John wants him to be, so John pushes him harder and harder (cutting hair as a form of punishment? Something John would probably do). Dean does nothing against this, nothing to defend his brother. Sam leaves, and Dean begs him to stay, but Sam obviously won't. From Dean's perspective, Sam is abandoning the family, is abandoning him. Dean loves Sam more than Sam loves him, hence why it's "I love you BUT"

I'm sure that we could find something for you to do on stage Maybe shake a tambourine or when I sing, you sing harmonies

Sam's been upset with being left out of the family business on several occasion. Dean wonders if including Sam more would have stopped him from leaving BUT his thinking is still caught up in the need to protect Sam. His part of the family is to be protected, hence why he isn't supposed to be proactive but either do things that are generally superfluous or follow Dean and John in some way. 

This is for the lake that me and my friends swim in Naked and dumb on a drunken night And it should've felt good But I can hear the Jaws theme song on repeat in the back of my mind

Dean is entirely unable to relax, even when he gets the chance. There is always some danger, something horrible lurking, someone who needs to protected from a monster in the dark. I think that probably got worse when Sam was gone, because his baby brother, alone at college? No one is there to protect him.

Dean blaming himself for Sam leaving, thinking it's no wonder that his brother left. Also, him taking the blame for Jessica dying (the spark in her eyes) and Sam watching her, but once again, he saves his brother, it is the one thing he can do.

Dean and Sam kind of having to find their place in a new life. Dean still wants Sam to follow him, because he is still worried about his baby brother. It's more tentative than before, because this time it's Dean alone who is in charge of his brother, of protecting him, and there is no John to help him. 

I wanna contribute to the chaos I don't wanna watch and then complain 'Cause I am through finding blame That is the decision that I have made

In some ways, Dean was never happy with Sam being back in the hunting life. His brother was happy with Jess, and Dean wanted that for him, in some way. But, the chaos allows him to be with Sam, and so Dean wishes it never ends, he wants to keep hunting and keep Sam there with him. There is chaos, but they will go through it together. I think this is Dean finding himself to be frustrated with his guilt and feelings regarding Sam, wants to stop finding blame in himself and just complain when he could accept what has happened. 

She hopes I'm cursed forever to Sleep on a twin-sized mattress In somebody's attic or basement my whole life Never graduating up in size to add another And my nightmares will have nightmares every night Oh, every night, every night

But he always returns to his self-loathing and guilt. He imagines that Jess, his brother's chance at escaping hunting, loathes him for dragging Sam back. Sam's chance at a new, ordered life thwarted by his brother. Jess' curses regarding Dean is what Dean thinks he deserves - to be alone, never to "graduate up in size to add another". He will forever be haunted by his nightmares, he will never sleep peacefully again. 

This whole song is (well wasn't intended but can be read as) about Dean regretting parts of his life, wondering if he could have done differently, and hating himself for the things and mistakes he thinks he's made. It's about him literally being stuck in his childhood (twin size mattresses). He wants to stay there with Sam, on that mattress, like when they were kids, but Sam has outgrown that part of himself. Dean drags him back, but he is still stuck in the past, alone, and while Sam is there and part of Dean wants to stop hating himself for that, he can't. He can't forgive himself, he can't move on, he will be perpetually stuck on that twin size mattress with his brother, dragging his brother down with him. And he will never stop regretting that.

omg Angie that was exactly what i meant and i loved it! I also adore Lebanon's favourite "are they?aren't they?" couple and imagining samdean co-parenting is such a delight. "If the baby looked like Sam, Dean would have like 12 disorders" got a laugh but it's so true i don't know how he'd handle it. It's similarly what makes me also like the idea of Dean having to deal with a deaged Sam just to see how gobsmacked he'd be. (Also those mommy recs? For a friend? 👀)

1. Oh good I’m glad it resonated! Truly, Dean would be against those baby chest carriers until the little guy was born, and then he’d not only constantly be wearing him strapped in, he’d also have one arm wrapped around at all times. Also that baby would not have a nursery, Dean would put the crib in their bedroom so he could be as close as possible, sit on the rocking chair at night just staring (Sam gets it, at least enough not to press the issue).

2. About A Boy with deaged Sammy: they’d have to end the show right there! Dean would run off into the night with itty Sammy, let some other hunter deal with the missing people. (/hj, I don’t actually remember what their relationship was like prior to that ep, all I know is it was VERY funny to me that they had a solution to the mark but Sam was like 🥺 “I am not baby?? no more Big Bro? Unacceptable.”

Vice and Wish by thatsakitkat (incomplete, ABO A!Sam/O!Dean, 42k)

One of my all time favorites. It’s a little OOC, but Sam’s uh, canonical entitlement toward Dean/Dean’s body and resources is so so sexy. Cockblocking him, spending his money, joining him in Dean’s subconscious against Dean’s protests. Spn was allergic to having a consistent stance on souls, but if you largely view soulless!Sam as Sam without empathy, then.. Yeah. I think the Sam in this fic/universe is realistically ruthless in getting what he wants (a baby in Dean).

(Taste Every Fruit by the same author doesn’t have pregnancy, but is a lactation fic and uhh. Quite good.)

Gracie Abrams is in the middle of telling me about the new music she’s writing when a thought stumps her. She pulls out her phone to Google the answer: When did her chart-topping second album, The Secret of Us, actually drop this year?“We started making new stuff the same week that we finished [that album]. Or actually, no, even earlier. When did the album come out?” she says, before trying to guess the release date: Top of the year? April? “What month are we in? December. When the f*ck did that album come out?” The page finally loads. “June 21st! Holy sh*t! I am losing my mind, if you cannot tell. Time isn’t as real as it once was.”That about sums up the story of Abrams’ life lately. In just a few months, she’s graduated from certified next-big-thing to actual big thing, thanks to her skillful songcraft and some excellent timing. After releasing two albums — 2023’s Good Riddance and then Secret, which got a deluxe edition in October — the 25-year-old scored a true star-making hit with “That’s So True,” a begrudging farewell to an ex that’s been inescapable whether you’re swiping through TikTok or flipping through the radio.It helped that, along the way, she’s opened for two of the most powerful women in the world: Vice President Kamala Harris, who recruited Abrams to rev up Gen Z with a campaign rally performance in Wisconsin this October; and, most crucially, Taylor Swift, who tapped Abrams to open for 49 shows of the Eras Tour and made a rare guest appearance on The Secret of Us track “Us” — the dean of confessional songwriting teaming up with her brightest pupil.Acne Studios dress, CHANEL Fine Jewelry earrings and ringsShe’s even managed the rare feat of transcending her nepo-baby status — her dad is sci-fi director J.J. Abrams, her mother is production executive Katie McGrath — and flipping it back onto her parents. At a recent show in New York, I watched fans approach her father to take selfies, not because he made Star Trek and Star Wars movies, but because he’s Gracie’s dad. (As one fan jokingly put it: “There is literally no way you knew JJ Abrams before Gracie unless ur like 50 like be for real.”)“They’re like, ‘What in the world?’” Abrams says of her parents’ reaction to her fame. “But it’s really sweet.” And she has a new appreciation for her mom — “The toughest person I know, and not a softie” — after watching her interact with Abrams’ growing army of young listeners. “The way that she treats people is how I want to treat people, and for me to see her be that way towards this community that cares so much about the music…” she says, her voice trailing off. “Her support and encouragement of my writing my whole life is the reason that I’m doing any of this now.”“Every time I’ve opened for Taylor, I watch and learn. I learned from her every time we have a conversation about the weather, even.”Abrams is telling me all this over breakfast in New York City, where she’s days away from making her musical debut on Saturday Night Live. She arrives punctually at Buvette in the West Village, dressed in a striped shirt and navy trousers, a black fur hat covering the hair that launched a thousand bobs. She arrives alone, coming from her mom’s nearby apartment, where she’ll be staying for the next few weeks. She seems remarkably calm and collected given the circumstances. Less than 36 hours ago, Abrams was on stage in front of 60,000 people in Vancouver, wearing a $75 thrifted wedding dress, performing for the final night of the Eras Tour.“Everyone had been crying all day. It felt like the last day of school backstage,” she says, sipping an oat milk cappuccino. “Everyone was walking around with their [Eras Tour] books, signing each other’s books. We were all walking around with Sharpies.”Like most Swifties, Abrams is moving through the stages of grief over the end of the tour. “I watched the live streams on shows that I wasn’t at,” she says. “I’m feeling emotional and grateful and in a state of shock that we don’t, as a global community, get to experience that source of light anymore.” And she’s especially appreciative of how being in Swift’s orbit offers a kind of pop-star boot camp as she enters a new stratosphere of success. “I was just soaking up every moment of her show, too. I’ve basically been studying it for a year-and-a-half. Every time I’ve opened for her, I watch and learn. I learned from her every time we have a conversation about the weather, even.”“It feels way easier to be alone in New York. And I love being alone.”When Abrams first started on the Eras Tour, two Taylor’s Version albums were just Easter eggs, the Poets had yet to be Tortured and “Tolerate It” was still on the set list; Abrams herself was fresh off the release of her debut album. By the time she rejoined the tour this past October, “That’s So True,” had just come out, and she could feel the way her life was changing in the vibrations of the stadium.“It’s funny to see what one song can do for engagement. In your head, you’re like, ‘Of course.’ But it’s crazy when you get to see that week-by-week in a stadium,” she says. “It was really wild. It felt different, for sure. There is something really psychotic about being able to hear voices in the stadium singing sh*t back at you. She started writing it last year but didn’t feel strongly about finishing it in time to put on The Secret of Us’ standard edition. Yet the song’s brash, self-aware lyrics are peak Abrams, embodying everything fans love about her. Since her first EP in 2020, she’s been packing emotional wallops into the tight confines of a three-minute pop song, with the easy intimacy of that friend who sends two-minute-long voice notes. Even as Abrams barrels from one feeling right into the next, her moments of mess have an enviable cleverness to them. Just listen to the second verse of “That’s So True,” where she manages to be both cheeky and snarling as she sifts through resentment for an ex who’s moved on (and herself for not doing the same): “What’d she do to get you off?/ Taking off your shirt, I did that once/ Or twice/ No, I know, I know I’ll f*ck off/ But I think I like her, she’s so fun/ Wait, I think I hate her, I’m not that evolved.”Audrey Hobert, Abrams’ best friend and frequent writing partner, has an idea of why Abrams’ songs are so sticky, even when they’re full of unconventional choices. “She taught me about something called mouthfeel, which is when you see if words feel good all strung together, and I’ve never forgotten it,” she says. “She’s hilarious and smart and fast and fun, just like she is when we’re not writing.”“That’s So True” went viral before it even came out: A snippet of Abrams playing the song acoustically with Hobert made the rounds on TikTok so quickly that Abrams added it to the set list of her headlining tour this fall. By the time she played two nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York — still days away from release — 90% of the crowd knew all the words, and even reenacted the lasso dance move Hobert made in the original video. (Hobert, who is also her roommate, is working on music of her own: “She is brilliant and deserves all of the ears and eyes,” Abrams teases. “The music she’s making right now is my favorite sh*t ever. You’ll love it.”)“I feel really lucky that 95% of my interactions with strangers are not with creepy dudes.”“It’s such an angsty, sarcastic song,” Abrams says of the hit, which she finished this spring at New York’s Electric Lady Studios with producer Aaron Dessner. “Audrey and I were drunk on the roof, writing it in tears, laughing. The initial lyrics were way gnarlier.” (“You don’t wanna know the first-draft lyrics,” Hobert tells me.) But there’s still plenty of bite in the bridge, a rushed, panicking confession that became a TikTok prompt for everyone from Kelsea Ballerini (“I was like, ‘Oh my God, you know who I am?’”) to @grandadfrankk (a charming Irish septuagenarian with 7.7 million followers). In November, it became her first top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.Also fueling the song’s rise: a new interest in Abrams’ growing celebrité, particularly her relationship with actor Paul Mescal, with whom she has been snapped by paparazzi several times over the last six months. (Mescal was also in attendance at the same New York show, and the pair were seen arriving hand in hand at this weekend’s SNL after-party.) Abrams keeps it brief when I ask how she’s found navigating personal relationships under this new public microscope. “That has nothing to do with me,” she says, straight-faced. “It doesn’t affect me.”LÙCHEN dress, CHANEL Fine Jewelry earrings and ringsRecently, Abrams got her own place in New York and is making the East Coast her home base. “Everything is more generative for me in New York. It feels way easier to be alone here. And I love being alone,” she says. Anonymity in the city is also a little easier to come by. “I’ve definitely noticed a change [in people noticing me], and at the same time, my life day-to-day doesn’t look different. I feel really lucky that 95% of my interactions with strangers are not with creepy dudes, for example, but young women or girls who are super emotional like I am and are able to express that. I appreciate that so much, and so I think that that is incredibly lucky.”“I’ve seen people be cruel towards new listeners, which is a bummer and such a shame because it’s not remotely how I feel.”She references a Maggie Rogers interview clip that’s made the rounds online, in which the singer-songwriter talks about how easily everyone can become a public figure in the age of TikTok. “And of course there are different levels and this spectrum is wide,” Abrams says, “but I do agree with what she said about the month you release an album, you get a lot more interaction with strangers in the street, but then six months later, things are quieter. People’s attention spans are short, and that’s all real and true.”The videos about Abrams that I encounter on my own feeds are relatively wholesome: Fans are dissecting her lyrics, not her love life (and, sure, a few are begging for her ab routine). “I’m glad that that’s what it feels like,” Abrams says. “I don’t really feel very engaged with my algorithm. I’m lucky that I don’t get my own sh*t on it. The videos that I interact with are about people that live in the middle of nowhere by themselves, or I get a lot of pregnancy announcements from strangers to their friends and family. I get a lot of wild animals and sh*t. So I don’t feel like I’m seeing a lot of myself, which I like.”Next year, we’ll all be seeing a lot of Abrams. The day before we meet, Abrams announced a new tour that features some of her biggest headlining shows to date, including multiple nights at arenas like New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden. “When I think about playing bigger rooms, I think of the Eras Tour as this endless well of information for me,” she says. “I felt like I was at school for this job. I used to be freaked out about the concept of not playing in a 100-cap room. It’s been a minute since I felt freaked out. If anything, you get to say hi to more people in bigger rooms.”Fans have taken note of her habit of frequently waving to members of the crowd throughout her shows, as if she invited them personally. (“Gracie waved at me” videos are a TikTok genre unto themselves.) Why does she do it? “I’m in a room with other people. They’re waving at me, and I want to say what’s up back,” she says plainly, as if to underscore that it’s not a bit — just a way of making even a big room feel a little bit smaller.Ottolinger top, David Koma skirt, CHANEL Fine Jewelry earrings and rings, Tom Ford shoesLately, she’s been thinking about the way her fan base has adjusted to an influx of new members. “I’ve seen some sh*t online recently that has made me…” she says, pausing to collect her thoughts. “I understand the whole concept of wanting to gatekeep small artists and feeling like you are responsible for finding somebody in their primary stages of development and then being responsible as well for helping share them with the world.“But I’ve also seen, on the flip side, people be kind of judgmental or cruel towards new listeners,” she adds. “I think that’s such a bummer and such a shame, to be honest, because it’s not remotely how I feel about it. I’m like, ‘Everyone, f*cking get in here! Come! Be a part of this community!’ It is generally really f*cking kind. Seeing some of that sh*t, I’m like, ‘Come on — chill.’”Following our breakfast, Abrams is headed to Saturday Night Live’s famed Studio 8H for her first visit this week. “For some reason, booking the Eras Tour and booking SNL exist in the same part of my brain where I didn’t know that chemicals in my head could release like that,” she says. “It’s such a privilege, an honor to do it. And also Chris Rock hosting is so f*cking nuts! I feel like I somehow cheated the system into being there for his show.” (She made at least one new fan with her performances: Barbra Streisand, who praised her on Instagram.)After a few Jingle Ball dates, a time-honored tradition for ascendant pop stars, she’s done for the year; she’ll do Christmas in New York with her family and take a trip for New Year’s before landing in London for the first half of January. “I spent so much time there over the past few years, and a lot over this year,” she says, then adds quickly — lest you jump to any geographical conclusions about her personal life — “I’ll be just chilling. I’ll be writing. I’ll be writing a lot.”And as for that new music? She’s been plugging away with Dessner at Electric Lady Studios and thinks a record could very well be out by the end of 2025. “I am inspired by Taylor in a million ways, but especially by the pace with which she puts things out into the world,” Abrams says. “There’s less pressure the more you release — that’s how I consider it for myself. I want to just keep it coming while I’m in this period of writing as frequently as I am.
